Lattes And Muffins At City Bakery

City Bakery is one of my favorite places in the entire city. If I had unlimited funds and unlimited calories, I would probably go there everyday. I used to only go there for their hot chocolate and pretzel croissants because that's what they're most famous for but I've never had anything that wasn't amazing. Their chocolate chip cookies are my favorite- super moist and with chunks of chocolate but crispy on the edges. Their blueberry corn muffins are different but my new favorite muffin. I think it's because they use a wider shallower pan so that there is more muffin top and less muffin bottom. Because everyone knows that muffin tops are the best part of the muffin but if you try to make just muffin tops, for some reason they just aren't as good as pulling the top off of a regular muffin. That's why I'm usually a scone girl- the whole thing is crispy. I immediately went in search of a pan like this and know that I've found one (a mini cake pan) I'm going to try to come up with a copycat recipe.
Meanwhile, I tried their lattes for the first time today. Obviously the hot chocolate is crazy good but I'm on a bit of a diet right now so melted chocolate and heavy cream doesn't really fit the bill. A nice skim latte, however, does. It did not disappoint. I've had better latte art at fancier coffee only type places but this one was served up in a mug probably six inches in diameter and extremely hot. It was was $4 dollars, typical for the good stuff in NYC ( read- if you want something worth drinking in NYC, be ready to pay up). It was perfect on a day that never went above 0 degrees.
