What a weekend! Three races and an incredibly long day at work make for a pretty crazy couple of days. On Friday, I ran cook your buns 5k. It's a pretty beautiful course, on the water and by lots of boats. I ran at a nice, easy pace- I wanted to really focus on my 10k the next day. I did a solid 9 minute pace. I felt pretty sick the entire way, actually. I think I had too much sodium today. Unfortunately, I have recently discovered a love of bacon and had a BLT on a croissant. The sandwich was life-changing but then I felt pretty gross. I haven't been dieting per-se but I have been trying to eat healthier and than includes let sugar, fat, and salt. So I'm pretty sure I overloaded my body with those things beforehand. Oh well. At the end of the race, Whole Foods had a bbq with all natural foods and salads. The watermelon was amazing!!!
The next day, I had the Mini 10k in Central Park. The race started in Columbus Circle and the first mile goes down the street! I passed the Museum of Natural History and a bunch of people looking very confused. Where are all these girls coming from?? LOL. I ran a nice, even pace. I didn't pr but I was at about an hour- so nice 10 minute miles. Granted, not my best but I felt great when I was done. Do you know how long it's been since I finished a race with no pain? Over a year. It was a wonderful moment for me knowing that I could run and be pain free. After my injury, I was in pain almost any time I ran over 4 or 5 miles. I didn't think I could every run a half marathon, let alone a full. I decided to sign up for my second half ever. I ran one two years ago and had a great time. I have wanted to run another for a long time, but up until now, I haven't even felt comfortable thinking about it.
So all in all, not a speedy weekend, but a triumphant one. Hooray for running longer!!! This week I'll be doing more Body Pump (which I am attributing to helping my knees), swimming, and some group runs with high school friends. Yay running with friends!!!!
