I have never had a date on Valentine's Day. I have never been sad about this because I always spend it celebrating with people I love. My parents always send me a nice card and my roommate and I decided that this year we would pull a "Parks And Recreation" and have a Galentine's Day. It's a totally awesome day to celebrate the best girlfriends in your life. We bought each other candy, went out The Grey Dog, a cool little cafe in Chelsea, and then sloshed through the snow to the IFC Center to see some of the Oscar nominated short films. This was fun and weird because we had absolutely no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Dinner and a movie sounded like a great friend date but ugh! February movies are just the worst! We ended up seeing the live action shorts because that was just what was starting when we got to the theatre. There were five films ranging from seven minutes to half an hour. Two were pretty funny and witty but the other three, man, those were emotional. I would definitely recommend seeing them and I wish I had the time or money to see the documentaries and animated films as well, but if you are looking for something light, maybe don't see these. We both walked out of the theatre with tears streaming down our faces.
